Admit it, you know it is meaningless and yet you say it anyway. Things like:
- Be careful
- Be safe
- Don’t touch that
- Brush your teeth
OK, the last one isn’t a waste of breath (most of the time).
We say them because they make us, the parents, feel better. I guess somewhere deep down we want to be able to say “Gee, I told him not to touch that, so all of this mess really isn’t my fault.”
